The Carpathian Biosphere Reserve is located within the Transcarpathian region, covering an area of more than 58 thousand hectares. Together with the transit zone, it is part of the UNESCO International Network of Biosphere Reserves and represents the entire landscape and biological diversity of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Its beech forests form the largest part of the transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site “Primeval and Ancient Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe”. The reserve is the only one in Ukraine to have been awarded the European Diploma from the Council of Europe for environmental protection.
