Block «Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra. 775 years old»

In Stock

The Pochayiv Assumption Monastery is one of the most famous Orthodox monasteries in Ukraine, located in the Ternopil region. According to legend, it was founded by the monks of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra who fled the Mongol invasion in the 13th century. The monastery is famous for the miraculous icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered in Orthodoxy, which was presented to the monastery by the Ukrainian noblewoman Anna Hoyska. From 1713 to 1832, the Pochayiv Monastery was under Greek Catholic control, during which time it became known as a place of pilgrimage for believers from all over Ukraine. The monastery's architectural complex includes several churches, including the 18th-century Assumption Cathedral. In 2015, in honor of the 775th anniversary of the monastery, Ukrposhta issued a special postage stamp.
