"I put my hand to my heart. And the hand began to beat against the heart, and the heart against the hand"… So wrote Shmuel Agnon in 1930, visiting his small homeland, the Galician city of Buchach. It was here that the classic of Jewish literature was born on July 17, 1888.

In 1966, Shmuel Yosef Agnon received the Nobel Prize "for his profoundly original art of storytelling inspired by Jewish folk motifs." He became the first Nobel Prize winner among Hebrew and Yiddish-speaking writers.

The postage issue, put into circulation on August 17, 2021, is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Israel.
