On May 5, 1949, the Council of Europe, the oldest international political organization in Europe, was established. The Council's Charter was signed by representatives of ten countries: Belgium, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. The main purpose of the Council of Europe is to ensure and protect human rights, develop legal cooperation, and cooperate in the fields of culture, education, health, environment, and information. The headquarters and main institutions of the organization are located in Strasbourg. On March 15, 2019, in honor of the 70th anniversary of its founding, Ukrposhta introduced the stamp “70 years of the Council of Europe (Our Rights, Our Freedoms, Our Europe)”.
