Stamp block "Sportsmen of Ukraine - medalists of XXV Olympic Games"

Description:

At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, despite having already gained independence, Ukraine competed as part of the United Team and under the flag of the International Olympic Committee. 

Interestingly, it was decided to raise the national flag and perform the anthem of the country they represented in honor of the winners of individual events from the Unified Team.

Thus, for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the Ukrainian anthem was played after the victory of Oleh Kucherenko, an athlete from Luhansk region, who won gold in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 48 kg weight category, becoming the first Olympic champion of independent Ukraine.

The postal block, which Ukrposhta put into circulation in 1992, is dedicated to all Ukrainian winners of the Summer Olympic Games held in Barcelona.
