Volodymyr the Great or Volodymyr Sviatoslavych was a prince of Kievan Rus from 980 to 1015. He was born around 958, the son of Prince Sviatoslav Ihorovych and the father of Kyivan Prince Yaroslav the Wise. Volodymyr is known for baptizing Kievan Rus in 988, adopting Christianity from Byzantium. This step contributed to cultural development and strengthened international relations.

Volodymyr implemented reforms to centralize power and strengthen the state, expanded the borders and made Kyiv a cultural center. His reign was an important stage in the history of Kievan Rus.

A block of one stamp in honor of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince was put into circulation on July 28, 2015. The inscriptions on the margins read: “Prince Volodymyr the Great of Kyiv” and “Princely Ukraine”.
