Artemiy Vedel - Ukrainian composer, choir conductor, violinist, singer. Born and studied in Kyiv, studied the basics of music under the guidance of the Italian musician Giuseppe Sarti.

He led the choir of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, taught music at the Kharkiv Collegium. Artemiy Vedel was considered one of the best connoisseurs of spiritual singing, he wrote more than 60 works, including about 30 church concerts, which were influenced by Ukrainian folk music songs. He was a novice of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. In 1799, he was arrested by the russians declared mentally ill by the government in a falsified case and kept in an insane asylum Cyril's Monastery. Despite the harsh challenges of fate, there was always an outstanding musician modest and religious person, never lost interest and love for life.
