Odessa residents say: “Half of Odessa residents sail the seas, while the other half wait for them, staring intently into the distance.” That is why a monument to loyalty, love, and patience was erected in Odessa to those residents whose husbands sail the seas.

The monument to the sailor's wife, depicted on the stamp from the series “Beauty and Grandeur of Ukraine,” was created by the distinguished artist of Ukraine, sculptor Alexander Tokarev. The bronze sculpture was solemnly unveiled in 2002 during the celebrations of Odessa City Day.
