Description:

The series of postage stamps “Ukrainian Embroidery – Code of the Nation,” launched in 2018, continues with the release of postage stamps depicting embroidery from the Odesa and Sumy regions.

Sumy region is represented by a women's shirt made of homespun cloth (early 20th century, Dobrotove village, Krolevets district), with two wide stripes of diamonds and cut diamonds and garlands of small flowers embroidered on the sleeves. At the bottom of the shirt is a wide strip of windows, crosses, and swirls. Exhibit of the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine.

The Odessa region is represented by a men's shirt made of store-bought cotton fabric (mid-20th century, village of Shershenci, Kodymsky district (now Podilsky district) with a floral “Brokary” ornament (cross, teeth, overlock stitch). Exhibit of the Ivan Honchar Museum National Center for Folk Culture (the shirt was donated to the museum by collector Dmytro Skoryk).
