Sheet «Inventions, which Ukraine presented to the world. The first electric tram»

In 2018, Ukrposhta launched the series "Inventions that Ukraine gave to the world". In the same year, three issues of the series were put into circulation: “The First Electric Tram”, “Piezoelectric Engine” and “Corneal Transplant”. “The first electric tram” stamp is dedicated to the main invention of Fyodor Pirotsky, which he began working on in 1870. The engineer applied for the privilege to invent “the use of electric traction on the railroad” in 1874. The project was not supported in the Russian Empire, but the German company Siemens became interested in the inventor's idea, and in 1879, it demonstrated a small “train” with a separate locomotive and two trailed passenger platforms at a Berlin exhibition. The first permanent electric tram line was opened in 1881 in Berlin, and the first electric tram in the Russian Empire was launched only in 1892 in Kyiv.
