A lot has been written about Hoffman's life, scientific research and creativity, because there is much to admire. His early childhood was spent in the small Polish town of Zolochiv (now Lviv region of Ukraine). In 1949, together with his mother, Roald emigrated to the United States. On the stamp sheet, issued for the scientist's 80th birthday, decorative elements depict the orbital model of the butadiene molecule and the structural formula of indigo.
