One of the main tasks of the MIA's Expert Service is to provide forensic expertise and technical and forensic support to the bodies conducting operational and investigative activities, pre-trial investigation bodies and courts in the prevention, detection, detection and investigation of criminal and other offenses.

Since 2002, the MIA's Expert Service has been a member of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutions (ENFSI) and actively cooperates with international organizations and expert institutions from other countries. Since the large-scale invasion, employees of the MIA Expert Service have been involved in the process of documenting war crimes and the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
