The formation of the 117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade began in November 2022 and was completed on January 31, 2023. This date is recognized as the Brigade’s official Day.

In August 2024, the brigade took part in combat operations in the Pokrovsk direction. After recovery in the fall of 2024, the 117th SHMB returned to the Pokrovsk sector and continues to carry out combat missions in this area of the front.

During combat operations, the brigade inflicted significant losses on the enemy. Dozens of units of enemy equipment and a large number of personnel were destroyed. Around one hundred brigade soldiers have been awarded state honors, decorations from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Commander of the Ground Forces.

The unmarked artistic envelope “Ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” bears the postmark “Trident” with the imprint of a special cancellation “117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade”.
