‘The Ukrainian song. Who has not been enchanted by it? … What artist has not been inspired by its rich melodies, the boundless breadth and beauty of its imagery…’, wrote Oleksandr Dovzhenko.

To hear a Ukrainian song in a painting is more than just a pleasure. A painting that seems to radiate a melody gives rise to a complex palette of emotions, filling the heart with joy and light. One of the talented artists capable of conveying the melody and narrative of a song through the visual arts is the icon painter and artist Polina Mialkovska. It is her original works that formed the basis for the designs of the new postage stamps in the ‘Ukrainian Song’ series.
