On September 29, Ukraine commemorates the victims of Babyn Yar, one of the largest sites of mass killings during World War II.

On September 29–30, 1941, the Nazis shot 33,771 Jews from Kyiv. Women, men, and children were killed over the course of two days. However, the executions continued for another two years: Roma, Soviet prisoners of war, Ukrainian underground resistance members, intellectuals, and patients of a psychiatric hospital were murdered near the ravine. On October 13, 1941, more than 300 patients were shot. The total number of victims is estimated at between 100,000 and 150,000.

To mark the 85th anniversary of the tragedy, Ukrposhta presents a postage stamp issue featuring works by Kyiv-born painter, graphic artist, and sculptor Yosyp Vaisblat.
