The 68th Separate Rifle Brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush was formed on March 6, 2022, from thousands of volunteers who were among the first to arrive at military registration and enlistment offices after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On March 23, the brigade's units gave a worthy rebuff to the enemy on the approaches to Vuhledar.

For fifteen months, the 68th Separate Rifle Brigade steadfastly held its positions in the Vuhledar direction. The soldiers selflessly resisted the numerically superior enemy forces, stopped their advance, and repelled the enemy, liberating the settlements of Prechystivka and Blahodatne in the Donetsk region.

In the summer of 2023, the hunters were redeployed to the Kupiansk-Lymansk direction, where, as a result of successful assault operations, they liberated part of the Luhansk region, in particular the villages of Nadiya and Novoyegorivka.

In the spring of 2024, servicemen of the 68th Brigade took up the defense of the Pokrovsk direction. Since then, they have held Pokrovsk, preventing the enemy from advancing.

The 68th Separate Ranger Brigade bears the honorary name of Oleksa Dovbush, the legendary leader of the Carpathian rebels of the 18th century.
