On August 21, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted, and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed, the law “On the Principles of State Policy on National Memory of the Ukrainian People,” which for the first time officially enshrined in law the name of the Russian Federation's armed aggression against Ukraine – “War for Ukraine's Independence.” The document records the start of the war on February 19, 2014.
