Mykhailo Hrushevsky (1866–1934) was a Ukrainian public and political figure, scholar, writer, and literary critic.

Hrushevsky is one of the most prominent figures of the Ukrainian elite, whose creative legacy is remarkable for its depth. His scholarly output comprises approximately two thousand works devoted to the study of Ukrainian history, literature, and sociology. His magnum opus is considered to be *The History of Ukraine-Rus*, which was written in 10 volumes.

With the establishment of the Ukrainian Central Rada in 1917, Hrushevsky was elected its chairman and drafted the UCR’s main political documents. Under his leadership, the Central Rada progressed from advocating for national and cultural autonomy to the proclamation of the sovereign Ukrainian People’s Republic in 1918.
