Postage set «Rail routes» according to the project «Personalised stamp»

Description:

Rail routes is a special set that includes two sheets of 9 stamps dedicated to the Kyiv Funicular and Ukrzaliznytsia.

The stamps of the first sheet depict one of the oldest in Eastern Europe, the Kyiv Funicular, which was opened on May 7, 1905. It connected the historical part of Kyiv, the Upper Town (Volodymyrska Hill), with Podil. The length of the funicular route is 222 meters, and the height difference between the lower and upper stations is about 75 meters. The funicular is powered by steel cables and an electric motor. Although the funicular is not a railway in the classical sense, it is connected to it by tracks and a movement mechanism. In addition, it remains an important tourist attraction, offering picturesque views of Podil, the left bank of Kyiv, and the Dnipro River.

The stamps of the second sheet feature a cup holder, an iconic symbol of rail travel in Ukraine, made using a unique technology at the only Ukrainian production facility, Sribna Polyana, in Vilnyansk.
